'Beach Party' is a bouncy bit of lightweight fluff, attractively cast (Annette Funicello, Frankie Avalon et al.), beautifully set (Malibu Beach), and scored throughout (by Les Baxter) with a big twist beat--Variety

Beach Party gets by with a serviceable plot, and fizzles out before there is any question of higher citations. The two outstnding items are the surfing...here well photographed and demonstrated--and the twisting which is presented in pleasing variety, coming to a climax in the furious gyrations of one candy Johnson.
